Finally! As promised earlier this week, here is the gift of cheer for a friend, which was inspired by the movie, UP. And, lucky you! I’ve also included a quick little tutorial on a bit of watercolor I did for the project.
The theme of this week’s Inspire Me post was the movie UP, and it served as a bit of inspiration for a gift of cheer for a friend. Mainly, the movie inspired the presentation of the gift, while I included items that she would enjoy and use, which were not necessarily inspired by the movie.
First, a peek into my sketchbook!
I wanted the iconic balloons in the movie to be the main element in decorating the gift, so I decided to paint some especially for this. I started with some simple watercolor, painting a very light, abstract background of blue. Over that, I painted in the colors of the balloons in a bunch. Nothing fancy or super neat.
Once the lines were a bit more defined, I went back and used more pigment to fill in and shade the balloons. For a bit more interest and definition, I used a hard leaded pencil to do a bit of shading in the darker areas. Finally, I further defined the balloons by outlining them with a fine tipped felt pen.
To display the balloons, I cut them out and glued them to another cut out of blue card stock for better stability and attached it to a wooden stir stick with tape. These cute birds, which I found in the floral section at Michael’s, make a sweet little addition. To make everything stand up, I used a bit of floral foam and packed it in the basket to keep it in place.
In the basket, I included my handmade neon washi tape & hand stamped cards, cocktail themed Swankies (facial tissues), handmade wine glass charms (for a princess!), a Yankee Candle votive, and a small memo pad.
I certainly hope that this little up inspired gift will lift up her spirits, bring her a little cheer, and offer a bit of encouragement!
